Week 31 (Year 2): Planting Garlic for over-wintering on my plot…

As I have several empty read raised beds, I didn’t want yet another one which was left uncultivated so have decided to plant Garlic for the winter. They are easy to grow and fairly self-sufficient as they set off to create a new bulb.

So using stringed rows, I have tried to be neat with the planted Garlic. Maybe the spacing is a little tight but I can always thin out weaker plants if required.

And in the trenches, they sit proudly as I was advised that digging them isn’t what you do. And as it is late in the planting season, they are simply covered by some soil.

As you can see, the Garlic already sprouting in the net bags so required to be planted ASAP.

Used string to try and keep straight lines of Garlic. Yes, they are tightly packed together but decided to have just one Raised Bed with Garlic this winter.

Finally covered with fleece to protect it whilst the cloves settle and spring up.
